Branch Outlets
Integrally Reinforced Branch Connections (Olets®) were developed in 1931 by Bonney Forge, with the industry largely knowing this style of connection only by the trademarks of Bonney Forge (Weldolet®, Sockolet®, Threadolet®, Nipolet®, Sweepolet®, Latrolet® and Elbolet® etc.). In general terms, branch outlets provide 90° or 45° fully reinforced header connection in accordance with MSS-SP97 and ASME B31.1/B31.3, with less material, welding and testing costs than traditional branches using Tee pieces.
In 2002, Bonney Forge purchased WFI International, a specialist company in engineered branch solutions with their “Pipet®” line of branch connections, including Vesselet® insert style connections. Lomond Engineering is the Australian distributor for WFI International and holds a large inventory of BW, SW, NPT, Lateral and Elbow Pipets in Carbon, Low Temp and Stainless Steels.
It is important to note that MSS-SP-97 does not provide exact dimensions for branch connections, instead providing rules for the height and allowable gap under the fittings to suit the header pipe contour and the framework for the manufacturer to design and proof test their solutions. Always use branch connections from manufacturers who have the engineering and testing to support their products, and have performed burst and proof testing of their designs. Reinforcement calculations may be required in certain applications, as the header pipe must be reinforced by the outlet to code – All of our brands have the engineering resources and knowledge to perform these calculations, if needed.
Flanged Outlets
Lomond holds Australia’s largest stocks of Flanged Outlets or Flanged Pipets®, often termed Nipoflange, Weldoflange or Flangeolet generically. These fittings are an integral solution replacing a flange, nipple and Olet connection with a single forged piece. We have Carbon, Low Temperature and Stainless Steels available, with other grades such as Duplex and Super Duplex or High Nickel Alloys available on request.
